Becky’s Squares photo challenge has returned.
This month’s theme is Renew. Or Burgeoning. Or Moving Forward. Or Reconstructing.
You get the idea.
Seeing the garden awaken after months of deluge made me think that maybe seeing how nature renews itself might be my theme. Although my intention was to feature my own garden this month, a visit to Kew Gardens at the beginning of the month with my daughter and granddaughter provided me with the opportunity to experiment with the phone I have inherited from my son. So for the next week or so I shall share some of the things that caught my eye there. Spending time with family very much helped me in the process of moving forward.
they are one of my favourite flowers, and now I know why they are so named perhaps that explains why. Have such happy memories of coming across them on walks in Portugal with Robert.
I have always loved them too and when I found out the meaning realised it was a perfect square for this month. Interesting to know that there is a wild variety in Portugal.
I know I was amazed when we first came across it. Initially I thought a few had escaped from gardens and then settled in, but no it is endemic to Iberia. A true delight – Paeonia broteri
That’s a fabulous colour. I was about to say that I don’t often see them in Portugal when I saw Becky’s comment. I’ll have to keep my eyes open.
Wild one, Paeonia broteri. I have sent you a link.
Fabulous! Thank you 🤗🌸
You need to get looking, now is the time for them to be in flower.
Tired today 😘
I’m not surprised with all the walking you do! A few days relaxing on the beach with a book perhaps.
The weather’s actually a bit indecisive at present. Blowing hot and cold. Set to be warm again at the weekend. Mick’s turn to lead the walk on Friday up in the hills so I’ll keep a look out 🤣💙
Look out for hazards too – no more tripping up!
Ha! You can talk 🤣🩵
Well in my defence I was attacked!
A rabid dog? 🤔❤️ I don’t remember how it happened. Thought it was an accident.
Lovely colour. Definitely balm for the soul. 😃
There are lots of colours but this is a real beauty.
Interesting, regarding they grow well in Portugal as I thought it would be too warm? Beautiful colour.
Apparently there is a wild peony that grows in the mountains under cork trees where I imagine it is a more temperate climate.
That makes sense. Wild ones would be stunning to see.
Smaller flowers than cultivated ones, but same colour as this one.
Those photos are beautiful and that’s such a great colour. Lovely.
Yes and a great contrast with those stamens.
Lovely! I miss my peonies, they were great when they flowered, and decayed beautifully!
I haven’t had peonies for years, but Genna has a lovely deep red one by her front door.
What a glorious peony! That wonderful colour brings joy to the heart! 🙂
They are fabulous shrubs, such a shame their flowering time is brief.
Yes, I’d love to see them around for longer.
Peonies are among my favourite flowers, real showstoppers! These are beauties 🙂
They always attract attention. I used to have a beautiful pink one when I lived in Doncaster – called Alexander Fleming. Perhaps I should look for one for this garden though I am not sure they are suited to windy conditions.
Such beautiful close-ups, Jude. The textures on the petals are amazing.
Best wishes, Pete. x
Thanks Pete. This phone camera is very good. I am enjoying experimenting with it.
Pictures on phone cameras look so good these days, it makes me wonder why I still bother with cameras. But I like fiddling with the controls, and looking through a viewfinder. x
I used to prefer my camera too. But recently I find it easier to use the phone.
Such a beautiful vibrant pink.
