A week of mixed weather – some days sunny and warm, some misty and rain. Chilly evenings call for the wood burner to be lit or a woollen blanket over the knees. Some light weeding. Found a new hiding place for the S&S. Replenished the slug traps using dried yeast and water instead of beer. I hate to waste beer, but it must be said they do prefer it. Taking five minutes out to sit in the garden listening and watching the birds. Robin, Goldfinch, Great Tit, Sparrow and Starling all in the space of a minute. There is hope.
Some people have wondered about the context of my recent photo – rain catchers – so the above bonus photo illustrates where in the garden there are located. In between my grasses and Geums in what I call my Gravel Garden.

The heuchera is such a lovely colour! Did you manage to sort booking? The day seems to have drifted away from me after a morning hill walk and lunch 🤗🩷
Finally found a B&B not too far away, plus a Park & Ride into Salisbury, and some rather nice local pubs. Now to book lunch for his actual birthday.
Success 🤗🩷
I really like the rain catchers. They are very striking in the garden.
They make an nice addition to the plants and look even better when the grasses are flowering.
Beautiful colours. Hope your slugs take to the yeast and water and you can keep the beer for yourself, or OH!
We are not beer drinkers so I don’t mind giving it to the slugs other than it is expensive!
I love that thalictrum , Jude, and am always surprised how early in the season it flowers. O overwintered osteospermum in the greenhouse this year, but I don’t think they would make it n the garden – yours is a pretty colour
I’m surprised at how early this on flowers too. I have three more, Elin and Anne which have yet to flower. Anne is very tall with thicker and blacker stems. Osteos with blue centres are supposedly the hardiest, though I suspect they don’t like frost and snow.
Hmm, both of those sound interesting. I have a white one, but it barely thrives – Black Stockings though has been a star right from the start
A great six. You’ve reminded me I had some Dutch Iris ‘Metallic Mixture’ but I’ve not spotted any yet. I found slugs preferred the more expensive beer to Sainsbury’s basics beer – they seem quite fussy.
I like the long view of your garden, makes a nice change from close up of flowers. Like the Thalictrum, the varieties I have flower much later, also like the heuchera and osteospermum, nice selection.
Oh, I can see why the Heuchera is called Red Lightning! I haven’t come across that one until now, but it’s an eye-catcher. You’re so right about Geranium ‘Anne Thomson’ – I have two in a border and they’re seriously contributing to my overstuffed garden – but also lovely. I’ve noted them for division. In Autumn – but is a beautiful geranium and well worth having in the borders. I have ‘Patricia’ too, but at the front of the house and as you said, more compact. Lovely selection again, Jude.
I imagine Anne and Rozanne are going to completely take over this bed.
A purple post – I really like it! My word, I never thought slugs would love beer … imagine you go to the liquor store and ask “Can I get two beers for the slugs in my garden please” 🙂.
Haha… 🤣 They’d be lining up in my garden that’s for sure.
