The first of many of my tulips this year – these go back to being planted in 2016 and are Tulipa ‘Whittallii’ a bulbous perennial, to 30cm tall, bearing cup-shaped flowers in spring. Pointed, burnt orange to reddish petals are pale yellow on the outside and have a blackish-olive blotch at the base of each petal that forms a dark circle at the centre of the cup. They have come back every year since from the same container which has never been emptied. Time perhaps for a change of compost this year!
