cloudy skies

Being forced into yet another lockdown and being confined to our local area I had the idea of going out each day with a different theme in mind. Continuing looking at clouds in February in other locations. Never far from home though.

Take a Beach Walk

Yesterday I was lucky to find some sunshine amongst the showers and I also found a new walk alongside the River Hayle. You can’t quite get onto the beach from here, but it is an interesting stroll all the same and the swans seemed happy. If you would like to take an altogether different beach…

Square January #15

Upstairs Always the optimist, Becky is hoping that 2021 will be a more positive year as we march onwards and upwards. Yes, the theme for January Squares is the word ‘up’ and as usual she invites us all to join her in a month of ‘ups’ of any description. The only absolute rule is that your main photograph must…

Square January #10

UP Up and Away Always the optimist, Becky is hoping that 2021 will be a more positive year as we march onwards and upwards. Yes, the theme for January Squares is the word ‘up’ and as usual she invites us all to join her in a month of ‘ups’ of any description. The only absolute rule…

In the Neighbourhood | Hayle Harbour

Ann-Christine invites us to explore our local neighbourhood this week, which is apt seeing as we in England are requested not to stray too far from home. I think I have ‘done’ my local area to death this year as we really haven’t been very far at all. So on a trip to the local…

Hayle: Isis Garden

The garden is dedicated to the RNLI and named after the first lifeboat, Isis, which was given by the University of Oxford and named after the River Isis. It was a rowing boat, which was in service for 21 years, during which it went to the aid of 11 ships and saved 51 people. There…

cornwall in colours: green or blue?

Puya chilensis (Sheep eating plant) is in the Bromeliaceae family and has striking stiff leathery mid-green leaves of up to 3 feet in length with spines. The trumpet-shaped yellow or green flowers grow on a tall spike. The flower spikes are up to 2m tall. Growth is slow and spread by offsets. I was astonished…

Hayle: Phillack

The Parish Church of Phillack, stands high on the edge of the Towans overlooking Hayle’s Copperhouse pool. Originally dedicated to St Piala or Phillack, it was latterly changed to St Felicitas and St Piala’s Church. (Piala was the sister of Gwinear and came over from Ireland accompanied by him and 770 companions, only to be…

finding space

The Hayle Towans last week were possibly one of the few beaches where social distancing was not an issue. Couples and families all managing to find plenty of space on a beach that stretches for 3 miles along the coastline and on a day like this with a low tide possibly a mile wide!

The George V Walk in Lockdown

During April most of my walks have been confined to the lanes around my home or up on ‘my’ hill (the one you can see in the background of the header photo and yes, that is how high up our house is). I have been doing my shopping at a small Tesco supermarket not too…
