The Twelve Days of Christmas start on Christmas Day and last until the evening of the 5th January – also known as Twelfth Night. The Twelve Days have been celebrated in Europe since before the middle ages and were a time of celebration.
Twelfth Night was a big time of celebration with people holding large parties. During these parties, often the roles in society were reversed with the servants being served by the rich people. This dated back to medieval and Tudor times when Twelfth Night marked the end of ‘winter’ which had started on 31st October with All Hallows Eve (Halloween).

Indeed. Must do better next year, these were simply winter photos I liked without really connecting them with the numbers.
But you started something! It’s a good idea, but I think I’d have to start thinking about it now.
That’s lovely! What exactly? I have been obedient and taken the decorations down. It always takes a fraction of the time of putting them up. And then you have to dust and rearrange things. Tired now. We popped over to Ayamonte to try and catch the 3 kings but we are seriously bad at it. Came home early because we both have rotten colds. I expect they’ll process without us.
I think it could be ‘Pseudowintera colorata ‘Red Leopard’ / ‘New Zealand pepper tree’. There seem to be a lot of NZ shrubs and trees down here. Sorry to hear about your illnesses, hope you feel better soon.

Very pretty. I’ve enjoyed the series, but no, the decorations are stil up and may be for some time yet. 🙂 I don’t agree with Jo that it takes less time to put them away than to put them up, at least as far as the decorations on the main tree. I have to figure out where to put them all and then how to pack all the containers in the large container. Putting them on the tree is much easier, even though I don’t do it. I do all the rest and the girls and my husband do the tree.
Ah, but if I remember correctly you do have a lot of decorations. I’m sure you’ll get there eventually, and some people keep decorations up until Candlemas which is Feb 2nd so plenty of time yet!
Yes, I do have quite a few. 😉. We enjoy having them up so it’s not an issue. I think they’ll be down before Candlemas (love that name).
The crimson edges of these leaves are most impressive – such a depth of colour. They’d add a lot to a winter garden.
