This week is the end of Dawn’s annual “Festival of Leaves” autumn challenge where she invites us to share our photos of the autumn (fall) season. Most of the leaves have been blown off by this week’s furious gales and heavy rain, though at the moment of writing this the sun is shining and the sky is blue! I am sure the beech trees in the woodland will retain some of their copper-brown leaves for several weeks yet, but for now this is goodbye to autumn for this year.

The beauty of a broadleaved woodland Brian. The copper beech leaves can last all through the winter if there aren’t too many storms!
Despite almost being in December, we still have so many leaves on both the Oak trees. I think Nature was fooled by that long hot summer.

Some of the trees around here are green too, those that haven’t had the leaves blown off in this week’s gales! It’s been very blustery and wet.
A lovely festival. But yes, it’s all but over now.
Shame we can’t skip winter! Just had thunder and lightning here, but strangely the rain passed us by. (not so earlier in the day with heavy rain and hailstones…)
The first time I saw a copper beech was in the grounds of Jane Austen’s home at Chawton. It was a huge tree and quite beautiful.
Starting to feel like it will soon be ‘Hello winter,’ here too. But there are still some green leaves around…quite strange!
