The Large White is one of two species (the other being the Small White) that can claim the title of “Cabbage White”. The female is distinguished from the male by the presence of 2 black spots, together with a black dash, on the forewing upperside.

Ah, what a lovely set of images. I may imitate (flattery will get me everywhere)
The dark background is good, isn’t it?
A common butterfly here in Beetley, but no less beautiful in close-up.
Best wishes, Pete. x
Indeed. I like watching them dance in the air during the summer.
Seeing butterflies dance it truly delightful! The white of the butterfly with the purple and tiny touches of red of the verbena makes a lovely image.
Beautiful 🙂
They may be common and loathed by people who grow brassicas, but when you look closer they are beautiful.
It is sad that people find butterflies a nuisance. Buy nets so save the precious leaves I reckon
Agreed – they have a right to life too!
Beautiful photos!
Thanks Chris.
Beautiful portraits
Thanks MM.
I always enjoy seeing butterflies and this one’s quite pretty even though not as colorful as many.
