The first of many of my tulips this year – these go back to being planted in 2016 and are Tulipa ‘Whittallii’ a bulbous perennial, to 30cm tall, bearing cup-shaped flowers in spring. Pointed, burnt orange to reddish petals are pale yellow on the outside and have a blackish-olive blotch at the base of each petal that forms a dark circle at the centre of the cup. They have come back every year since from the same container which has never been emptied. Time perhaps for a change of compost this year!

Are you tempted to move north? I assume it is cooler along the Atlantic, better for the summer?
That’s why Hilary moved. It seems to have a temperate climate but we’ll wait and see what the winter brings. Not tempted to move anywhere yet. It’s too unsettling 🤗💟

My garden is a mass of tulips at the moment. So colourful.
Why dump out the planter if you really like those tulips? Perhaps move it around in your garden for different perspectives each year.
They have been in the same pot for years, they might bulk up more in the ground, or at least have some fresh compost!
