Christmas in Cornwall

We’re on the beach!
Crunch…
Squelch…
Sinking sand.
Wet shoes
and feet.
The tide
comes in
with surf
pounding.

Foreign gulls
reclaim the shore
from the natives.
Clouds come
and go.
The sun plays
hide and seek
in a light breeze.

Dog walkers
in sensible boots
and dogs
with sensible paws
walk briskly.
Whilst we meander
avoiding rivulets
running to the sea.
Opting for soft paths
among the dunes
and marram grass.

And still the children play…

The beach must make for some lovely Christmas traditions. I hope the weather permits a long, leisurely Boxing Day stroll.

Some crazy people go for a swim!

        Rather them than me!

  2. What beautiful and light-filled images, Jude – just beautiful and perfect for the day.

I enjoyed the contrasting words that accompanied your wonderful photos, Jude. It was too muddy for a walk across the fields on Christmas Day, which meant sticking to the lanes, but we had a walk in the woods yesterday

  4. “dogs
with sensible paws” – a lovely line Jude for a wet wintry walk by the sea – bracing!

  5. So glad I delivered on my email promise to check your blog out: a beauty in pictures and words.

Ah, thank you Meg. Just noticed your email too. Happy New Year to you and your family. It doesn’t seem like 7 years since we met, but it is! I hope you get over to Poland soon, and I am hoping that I get at least one more visit to Australia.
