Natural Light

“Natural light photography uses the sun as a light source”

I am a passionate flower photographer and mainly use natural light as my light source as I photograph outdoors, hardly ever in a studio/indoors. We all know that the time of day influences the way the light falls, the colour, the shadows. Early morning and late evening are the best times for flower photography, but that is not always the time when we are able to visit public gardens. Of course in our own gardens we are free to take photos at any time of the day.

Sometimes I want to capture the backlight through leaves or flowers.

Sometimes I aim for a more artistic approach. Something that can be framed for the wall

And I love to get in close to see those details that the naked eye can miss

And then there are times when I need to wait patiently for a bee to visit

All of these examples rely on natural light to capture the beauty of the natural world.

  1. Meant to “visit” you yesterday Jude – apologies for the delay! These are stunning photos worthy of an exhibition. I love them all especially the intense blues in the first photo (but I can’t really pick a favourite as they are all lovely) 🙂
