I shall be away this weekend, visiting my daughter in Surrey so I am not sure if I will be able to link to the Prop’s site properly. Obviously this post has been prepared in advance, but I thought it would be nice to have a look at the ‘Zen Patio’ when at its best in the summer months when all the pelargoniums and Aeoniums come outside.
The larger (1) scented leaved pelargoniums were left outside all through the winter in the blue glazed pots and they are flowering profusely. I did take cuttings though which were kept inside. They were attacked by white fly so this year they will all remain outdoors in a sheltered spot (under a bench) and take their chances.
The (2) Kangaroo Paw has flowered again too. This was also brought indoors in the winter but went very black so in the spring I took a chance and cut all the foliage right down to about 3 inches. And then crossed my fingers! There are some summer bulbs among the pots and the rogue lily which I thought I’d got rid of last year after several disappointing years where the flowers were eaten before they had chance to open.
My only annuals this year are the (3) Cosmos, in several varieties, which are just beginning to open. (4) Geranium x magnificum and (5) Geranium sanguineum grow in the cracks along the patio edge and the (6) Sweet William are repeat flowering from last year! Getting rather tired now they will be emptied from their pots when I return home though I shall take some cuttings which hopefully will root in time to be used as tulip pot toppers in the autumn.
The opposite side of the patio (header) is the shady side where ferns and Heucheras and the Geranium oxonianum flourish under the Goat Willow trees. That’s all folks!

It must be lovely to be seeing your daughter after presumably some time,,, I have one in Surrey too.
Zen patio is an eminently suitable name for this space, and so far I have failed to come up with anything appropriate for our similar space, so still call it ‘the paved area’ as I don’t want it to be called ‘the patio’! It was interesting reading your experience of bringing plants inside over winter as aphids were certainly a problem in the Coop. I could certainly move some things out for spring and summer although I would then want to fill the Coop with other things! Thanks for showing us your six – it makes a really attractive area
The Zen Patio looks like a lovely place to sit and relax. I must sow a batch of new Sweet Williams for next year.
They are very long lasting plants. I hope that I can take cuttings, never tried before.
