At the end of last summer I bought a fairly large zinc planter, the aim of which was to plant orange begonias in for the shady courtyard in summer. Meanwhile I filled it with spring bulbs. First it was full of the lovely dark purple Iris reticulata ‘Dijt’, followed by a few random narcissus from the previous year and now 30 tulip bulbs that were free with my bulb order from J Parkers. I have no idea what kind they are other than ‘long stemmed mixed pack’, but they are very beautiful in shades of red, pink, pale ivory and purple. Normally I am not a fan of mixed bright colours, but these seem to work well. The needle-like foliage from the irises that flowered in February provide a nice contrast to the wider tulip leaves.
Whilst we are confined to #StayAtHome I will be posting photos from around my house and garden to hopefully cheer us all up.
A lovely cheerful way to begin the day!
They are rather in your face!
More beauties. I’ll be sad when we’ve seen the last of your gorgeous tulips.
Plenty more to come π
Lovely!
So pretty! I’m not fond of a mix up either, but these look great. Happy Easter! (bah! humbug?)
I do love these vibrant colours together Jude, very cheery
And they’ve been flowering for a couple of weeks now.
Good value
Especially since these were free!
π
Julie bought a bunch of tulips like those yesterday. I think the colour mix works well with that flower.
Best wishes, Pete. x
The rest of my tulips are rather more subtle – or at least not planted together!
What a cheery sight I love them
Can’t get much more flamboyant than these ladies! Definitely party tulips!
They scream HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY π
They are certainly loud π
Lovely. I like bright colours and they don’t come much brighter than tulips. I have some yellow and white species ones open today, to my surprise.
Most of mine are open, even those supposed to be late April / early May.
Your tulips look so beautiful Jude.
Thank you Colline. These are very bright.
Oh so very beautiful ;D
