Monkshood or Aconite or even wolf’s bane (Aconitum napellus) is one of the most poisonous plants in the garden. A beautiful but deadly hooded flower that can poison by touch alone. That said, bees and butterflies love aconitums, slugs hate them!
The top sepal forms the trademark “monk’s hood” and just look at that beautiful violet-blue colour and the delicacy of the veins in those petals, it even has fine hairs on the edges!
(This was seen during my walk in the lanes last week, but I think I may have one in my garden, the foliage looks the same, but it has never flowered.)
