Mariner Entering the Lighthouse
I was quite taken with this tiny figure entering the lighthouse on the Alfred Wallis grave which is covered by an elaborate gravestone, made from tiles by Bernard Leach and depicting a tiny mariner at the foot of a huge lighthouse. Wallis was penniless when he died, but his friend Adrian Stokes bought a plot in the cemetery and arranged a Salvation Army funeral.
I find this image touching too, it has a childike innocence.
True. Could be a nice idea for a children’s story.
It is a lovely image, and a nice story of friendship too.
