Six on Saturday | Penzance in the Pink

A short post this week because there is still not a lot to show from my own garden, although one or two bulbs are flowering such as Hyacinths and Scilla. More of those later once I have a few more to add to the list. I have however managed to get out in between the showers and take a walk through a couple of local gardens. The George V Memorial Walk in Hayle is one of my favourites, and also nearest, and I love to take a stroll to see what is happening there. Made even more interesting in the winter due to the birds that migrate to this estuary. An Egret, Spoonbill, Terns, Redshank and Curlew were spotted on Wednesday. Always makes popping into the library an added pleasure.

But my six are from Penzance – Camellias with so many flowers and buds make it look like summer has arrived, but hold that thought. The Morab Gardens are a wonderful place to take time out and practice a bit of mindfulness as well as flower photography. And the tiny private gardens surrounding this park also have some gems to offer.

Chaenomeles × superba ‘Pink Lady’

Without further ado – six pinks from Penzance. Camellias, Cyclamen coumChaenomeles × superba ‘Pink Lady’ (I think) and what I believe are Argryranthemum frutescens in a container.

They say you should look around your neighbourhood to see what is in other gardens for ideas of what to plant in your own. All I have to do is find some room for one of those Japanese quinces (Chaenomeles superba) and maybe try the Argryranthemum frutescens again. I did have some growing that I overwintered one year, but then they died. The camelia looks lovely. 🙂 🙂 In the hills yesterday I was astounded to find wild lavender, already! Who knows what other surprises this year may bring?

      You are living in Paradise!

  2. What a pretty collection this is, Jude. My cyclamen are suffering in the heat but I’m hopeful they’ll pick up again when it is cooler.

So pretty in pink Jude. I have 2 camellias a single and double white. The flowers never last long in this climate.

They don’t last too long here! The rain turns them brown and the wind blows them off. Just had to rescue mine as the wind had blown the pot onto its side during the night.

Oh dear. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for some rain this week

Well done Penzance and thanks for sharing them Jude!

  5. Superb photo’s Jude. Lots of lovely colours.

  6. “They say you should look around your neighbourhood to see what is in other gardens for ideas of what to plant in your own”. That really is a global saying as many people had said that to me when I was embarking on a new garden in various homes we have owned.

  7. Lots of pretty pinks there. 🙂
