Another birthday meal (the OH, not mine) at the Old Coastguard Hotel in Mousehole (Mowzel) on Thursday was very different to the one on my birthday there a couple of years ago. The weather for one thing. The crowds for another. Celebrating a birthday in Cornwall during a school holiday is a bit of a challenge, but we struck it lucky last week with the parking. It was very hot too after an absolutely dreadful day the day before so after lunch we didn’t linger too long in the winding streets: just long enough for me to have a nosy around and see what plants were growing in the stone walls and tiny courtyard gardens, which is how I came across this gorgeous ginger cat posing quite beautifully for me next to a coppery pot.
The Mousehole Cat is a picture book favourite, the dramatic and moving Cornish tale of a cat and a fisherman who brave the stormy seas to save their village. Mowzer was a black and white cat by the way.
