A series of narrow lanes lead to Godolphin House and Gardens midway between Godolphin Cross and Townshend. The gardens are open all year round (though it is always best to check before travelling a long distance). Located in a very peaceful part of west Cornwall, the estate includes the Leeds engine house and stack, the remains of the Godolphin family mine. The riverside walk and Godolphin Hill are popular walking trails and from the top of the hill you can see both the north coast (St Ives Bay) and the south coast (Mount Bay), and when you are tired of walking and exploring the ancient gardens with their medieval layout, then pop into the Piggery for cake and coffee.
Spring is one of my favourite times to visit with carpets of bluebells in the woodland and primroses and tulips in the garden.
But summer is full of colour too with roses and delphiniums and a wild flower meadow to attract the bees.

Wet here this morning but brightening up now, very windy still! I found a stupendous bench on Monday, and despite my not taking bench photos for a couple of years this one just insisted 😀

I seem to have missed the original, so happy to catch up. I do love walled gardens, and always wanted to own a house that had one. But modern ones don’t have the same appeal as these lovely old estates.

Have you visited Felbrigg? It has the most wonderful walled garden.
I have not, so far, mainly because of Ollie. I have to go to such places with someone else, or having the dog leaves me trapped outside.
My first father in law had a house with a walled garden, in Broughty Ferry, close to Dundee. It dated from around the 1850s, and gave delightful privacy in an otherwise busy street. x
You need to twist Julie’s arm to go with you and then take it in turns to go into the garden, the rest of the estate is nice to walk around too and probably dogs are allowed there. Or meet up with KB and Dina, I’m sure they’d love to dog sit 🙂
I think dogs are allowed in the grounds only, on a lead. I doubt that applies to the walled garden, but it is on my ‘radar’. 🙂 x

My American friend and blogger, Ed Westen, has a problem with WP that you may be able to solve. He cannot get full-size pictures into his posts on his WordPress blog. I said I would ask you. He sent me this, and mentions it in the linked post. He has gone for a fix by using Flickr for now, but would like to solve it.

In the URL box, I get a green closed lock with WordPress.com (automatic, Inc.)[US] in green preceding the black typeface of https:// and the rest of the normal address for my site. I must head up the hill and see if they are flowering there. Quite a different sight to a woodland carpet.
