Β DSCF2345Not only are some of the street names in St Ives a little different, many of them are very narrow, or simply passages leading from one lane to another; as you can seeΒ a lot of them are steep cobbled hills orΒ flights of steps.

Nice to see all the traditional names. (And translations into Cornish)
Not sure that I would want to retire to the town though, with all those steep streets and cobbles to face. Cornish pensioners are obviously fitter than some.
    Regards as always, Pete. x

Ha, I’m not sure many Cornish people actually live in the town itself Pete. Maybe on the outskirts where it is a little flatter.

        Sensible folk indeed! x

What a delightful place for a wander!

    1. Heyjude says:

It is when it is off-season. I wouldn’t attempt it at the moment. I’d never get a photo of the streets!

      1. Sue says:

        Oh, true!!

  3. Pit says:

What an interesting post, both for the pictures and the unusual street names!

    1. Heyjude says:

Well I haven’t got photos of ALL the streets so thought that instead of just writing a list I’d try something a bit different.

  4. Another great post, and great idea. Clodgy View is my pick, even if it dos seem to mean muddy and wet!

    1. Heyjude says:

      Sounds about right πŸ˜‰

  5. There are some great names there! I remember starting to do a similar thing and gather the names of the streets when we were in Fowey, but didn’t get very far before I was distracted by all the different door knockers (which I took pictures of but have yet to put them in a post!).

    1. Heyjude says:

Haha.. I took loads of door knockers in Malta and still haven’t done anything with them! (2006)

Clodgy View and Carrock Dhu, awesome πŸ™‚

    1. Heyjude says:

I thought this would make you smile πŸ™‚

  7. Allotmental says:

Looks like a great place but its cheaper for me to fly to Europe than a train from London!! 😠

    1. Heyjude says:

      A darn sight quicker too!

  8. Wonderful street names, Jude. I assume there are no pubs in Teetotal Street. πŸ™‚

    1. Heyjude says:

heehee.. I never looked! You would imagine not.

  9. joannesisco says:

This post was really different! Nicely done.

The hills and cobblestones don’t necessarily frighten me off, but I don’t think I’d like to live on TeeTotal Street. These are not my people πŸ˜‰

    1. Heyjude says:

Nor mine. We’d have to forego that G&T πŸ™‚

      1. joannesisco says:

I don’t think so …. some things are just too important πŸ˜‰

  10. Anabel Marsh says:

Ah, Teetotal Street is in this time! And I’d forgotten about Virgin Street.

    1. Heyjude says:

      It’s a very quaint place πŸ™‚
